Adams School Condo Association (2016)

The Adams School Condominiums were developed on a former school site in a diverse, vibrant neighborhood in Portland, Maine. We were hired by the Adams School Condo Association for a meeting to help the condo owners establish shared values and interaction guidelines.

Alliance for Community Transportation (2010)

This coalition of public transportation providers in southern New Hampshire hired us to facilitate a retreat focused on priorities for service delivery and how to work most effectively as a coalition.

American Institute of Steel Construction (2016)

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is a technical institute and trade association serving the structural steel design community and construction industry in the United States. We were hired to deliver an interactive leadership talk and an Endnote speech for AISC’s 2016 Future Leaders Ideas Lab in Philadelphia. The Future Leaders Ideas Lab is a leadership development and networking opportunity for fabricators who have either recently moved into or anticipate moving into a senior management position during the next few years.

 

American Psychiatric Association (2013)

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) is the world’s largest psychiatric organization representing more than 33,000 psychiatric physicians from the United States and around the world. Craig was hired by the APA District Branch Executives to deliver a 3-hour Facilitative Leadership training in Washington, DC for Executive Directors of regional chapters.

American Psychiatric Association Area One Council (2009)

The American Psychiatric Association Area One Council, representing psychiatrists in the six New England states as well as Canada’s Eastern provinces and Quebec, engaged us to facilitate two meetings at its spring conference in Boston. We also prepared reports of the meetings.

American Society for Training and Development – Maine Chapter (2014)

The Maine Chapter of ASTD (American Society for Training and Development) is a non-profit organization for professionals actively engaged in or interested in the fields of training and development. Craig delivered an interactive “Group Decisions Done Right” session for a professional development meeting of the chapter.

Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce (2008)

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Town of Bar Harbor and other key institutions, convened a series of meetings among business and community leaders to discuss innovative approaches to developing more business activity in the shoulder seasons. We were hired to facilitate these multi-stakeholder meetings and prepare the resulting summary reports.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Town of Bar Harbor and other key institutions, convened a meeting among business and community leaders to discuss innovative approaches to developing more business activity in the shoulder seasons (spring and fall). We were hired to facilitate the meeting and prepare the resulting report of findings.

Beginning Farmer Resource Network (2014)

The Beginning Farmer Resource Network is a coalition of Maine agriculture agencies and organizations working together to connect aspiring, beginning, and transitioning farmers to resources for farm business success. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a future visioning session at a Network retreat.

Bethel Area Nonprofit Collaborative (BANC) (2017)

The Bethel Area Nonprofit Collaborative (BANC) is a group of nonprofits with a wide variety of missions in the Bethel, Maine region committed to working together to improve the community. We were hired to plan and facilitate a strategic planning process for BANC, to answer key questions about activities, outreach, and organizational structure. The process included stakeholder interviews and focus groups, and meetings among BANC members to build consensus on answers to strategic questions.

Blue Sky Funders Forum (2013-2014)

Convened and administered by NAAEE (North American Association for Environmental Education), the Blue Sky Funders Forum is a national group of charitable foundations, corporate foundations, and government grantmakers who have formed an alliance to advance environmental education. Craig facilitated a series of meetings to help the group get organized and establish initial priorities.

Casco Bay CAN (2016)

The Casco Bay Create Awareness Now (CAN) Coalition is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a meeting to discuss Casco Bay CAN’s sustainability plans for the short-term and the long-term.

Casco Bay CAN (Create Awareness Now) Coalition (2012)

Casco Bay Create Awareness Now (CAN) Coalition is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a semi-annual meeting of Casco Bay CAN. One purpose of the semi-annual meeting was to develop a sustainability strategy among key stakeholders.

Casco Bay Create Awareness Now (CAN) Coalition is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a meeting to review Casco Bay CAN’s strategic prevention framework model and plan for the next five years.

Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention (2009)

The Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to facilitate a meeting of the Steering Committee to develop a work plan for implementing new grant funds and to decide on the coalition’s new name: Casco Bay CAN (Create Awareness Now) Coalition.

Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (2011)

The Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP) is a collaborative effort of people and organizations interested in protecting and restoring Casco Bay, on the southern coast of Maine. CBEP hired us to help plan and facilitate a two-day Board retreat to establish short-term priorities, prepare for long-term strategic planning, and build enthusiasm and renewed commitment among the Board. We teamed up with Ann Gosline of Gosline & Reitman for this project.

Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (2014-2015)

The Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP) is a collaborative effort of people and organizations interested in protecting and restoring Casco Bay, off the southern coast of Maine. In 2014-2015, we helped plan and facilitate a series of CBEP committee and working group meetings to discuss and finalize a scope of work and timetable for strategic planning and then to work through the strategic planning process itself in preparation for the State of the Bay Conference in late 2015. During the conference we also facilitated a stakeholder input session to gather reactions and suggestions about the 2015-16 Casco Bay Plan. As a result of this work CBEP prepared a comprehensive five-year Casco Bay Plan with goals, strategies, and actions.

Casco Bay Nutrient Council (2017-2019)

Convened by the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, the purpose of the Casco Bay Nutrient Council is to develop recommendations to policy makers, regulators, and funders on how best to manage the impacts of nutrients on Casco Bay in southern Maine. We have been hired to plan and facilitate a series of Nutrient Council meetings to help the Council achieve its purpose.

City of Portland Refugee Services Program (2013)

The City of Portland, Maine (population about 66,000) Refugee Services Program works to improve stability, independence, and overall quality of life for refugees in Maine. The Program has formed the Community Leadership Engagement Coalition to help community stakeholders who have been historically marginalized in the public education system based on race, ethnicity, immigration, and income status. We were hired to plan and facilitate a half-day workshop on group empowerment for the Coalition.

Co-Occurring Collaborative Serving Maine (CCSME) (2016)

Co-Occurring Collaborative Serving Maine (CCSME) serves those affected by co-occurring conditions by advocating for best practices, encouraging professional development, maximizing collaboration, and facilitating integrated health and behavioral health services. We were hired to plan and facilitate a strategic planning board retreat to affirm strategic direction and identify specific strategies for board and member development.

Cohousing Association of the United States (2011)

Craig was asked to facilitate a plenary session of “Creating Better Neighborhoods for the Future”, this year’s national conference of the Cohousing Association of the United States. Craig planned and facilitated a World Cafe-style discussion of about 100 people on the topic: “How can cohousing help?” The group came to some conclusions about the relevancy of cohousing in light of today’s environmental, economic, and social concerns.

Community Health Leadership Board (2018)

The Community Health Leadership Board (CHLB) is a partnership of hospitals, healthcare providers, and the city of Bangor, Maine, acting as a collective catalyst for improved health, hopefulness, resiliency, and innovation in the Bangor region. We were hired to facilitate a CHLB retreat to discuss strategies to address the community’s opioid crisis.

Consumer Council System of Maine and NAMI (2010-2011)

The Consumer Council System of Maine has teamed up with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to convene a series of meetings of peer and family support groups for people with mental and behavioral health challenges. The purpose of the meetings is to explore collaboration opportunities. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate the meetings and prepare a complete report.

Cumberland County Clean Water Collaboration (2016-2017)

Building on our earlier work with the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District, we facilitated several meetings of the Design Team of the new Cumberland County Clean Water Collaboration, a coalition of municipal managers and stormwater management professionals working together on municipal and regional stormwater projects. In these meetings we discussed objectives and tasks for the new Collaboration.

Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District (2016)

In collaboration with Cumberland County and the Greater Portland Council of Governments, the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a meeting among municipal managers and stormwater management professionals to kick off the Cumberland County Clean Water Collaboration and identify regional priorities for clean water projects. We were hired to help plan and facilitate the meeting.

In collaboration with Cumberland County, the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a meeting of the Regional Clean Water Collaborative. We were hired to help plan and facilitate the meeting.

Elder Issues Partnership (2004-2012)

A large coalition of organizations that serve elderly in various ways banded together in a coalition and retained us to facilitate their monthly meetings which always consisted of exchanging information about state and federal policy initiatives and often included outside speakers on topics of interest. In addition, we provided complete secretariat services which included meeting write up and distribution, handling all correspondence, managing a website and list serve on behalf of the group, and arranging meeting facilities. The group tried to influence state policy to better serve elderly people. More recently, we were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting for the coalition.

Elder Justice Partners (2011)

The Elder Justice Partners is a partnership of 17 state government and non-profit agencies working to protect Maine seniors. Elder Justice Partners convened a day-long summit of leaders working in the area of elder abuse to highlight the current state of elder abuse outreach and prosecution and plan for the future of elder abuse work in Maine. We were hired to facilitate and prepare a complete report of the summit.

Environmental Education Funders Collaborative (2013)

The Environmental Education Funders Collaborative (EEFC) is an informal collaborative of funders in the San Francisco Bay Area that develops avenues for sharing and partnering with the many stakeholders in the field of environmental and science education. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day conference of environmental educators and funders in San Francisco, CA.

Greater Portland Convention + Visitors Bureau (2014)

The Greater Portland Convention + Visitors Bureau works with visitors and travel professionals to create a positive travel experience in Coastal and Southern Maine. Craig delivered his session “Good Meetings Make Great Leaders” for the bureau’s Meeting Planner Continuing Education Series.

Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) (2014-2016)

The Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) is a nonprofit organization that assists with cooperative services such as bulk purchasing, transportation planning, data, mapping, and economic and community development. GPCOG’s members include 26 municipalities from Casco Bay to western Cumberland County, along with the County itself and other affiliate organizations. We were hired to help gather stakeholder input and facilitate a series of meetings to develop a five-year strategic plan for GPCOG.

Green Building Council (2007)

This young non-profit is Maine’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. They hired us to help them establish their strategic direction. We facilitated a full-day retreat of the board and prepared a report which is serving as the basis for their strategic plan.

Green Building Council (2008)

This energetic and rapidly growing non-profit is Maine’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Like the year before, they hired us again to facilitate a full-day board retreat and prepare a complete report.

The Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is Maine’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. For the third time, they hired us to facilitate a full-day board retreat and prepare a complete report.

High Value Healthcare Collaborative (2016)

The High Value Healthcare Collaborative (HVHC) is a provider learning network committed to improving health care value through data and collaboration. We were hired to help improve effectiveness and efficiency of the stakeholder meetings led by the HVHC Program Management Office Coordinators and Senior Leaders, including a full-day facilitation training and Craig’s observations of actual stakeholder meetings. As a result of this work, the group will establish and implement Standard Operating Procedures for high value meetings.

Home Care Alliance of Maine (2006-Fall)

The Home Care Alliance of Maine, a statewide trade association, hired us to plan and facilitate their annual meeting of members. During a full-day meeting, we discussed the organization’s membership and dues structure, committee structures, and related issues. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

Home Care Alliance of Maine (2006-late Winter)

This statewide non-profit, consisting of home health care providers, hospice providers and other health care organizations, hired us to facilitate two meetings in order to develop recommendations to the state on how to ease administrative burdens on health care providers.

Home Care and Hospice Alliance of Maine (2014)

The Home Care and Hospice Alliance of Maine is a nonprofit trade association supporting affordable, accessible, quality home care and hospice services throughout the state. We were hired to plan and facilitate a board meeting to discuss governance and member engagement.

International Policy Governance Association (2015)

The International Policy Governance Association (IPGA) is a worldwide nonprofit organization promoting owner-accountable effective governance practices. Craig delivered a keynote and an interactive workshop at “Leading Together,” IPGA’s 12th annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The International Policy Governance Association (IPGA) is a worldwide nonprofit organization promoting owner-accountable effective governance practices. Craig partnered with IPGA to deliver a webinar on Getting to One Voice.

Justice Action Group (2014)

The Justice Action Group (JAG) is a coalition of various groups working toward equal access to justice in Maine, led by representatives from the state and federal judiciary. We were hired to plan and facilitate a summit of JAG representatives and stakeholders to discuss and plan for JAG’s future. We also prepared a complete report.

Maine Academy of Family Physicians (2015)

The Maine Academy of Family Physicians represents over 700 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students in Maine. The Academy advocates for the specialty of Family Medicine, and enhances communication among and provides information to Maine family physicians. We were hired to facilitate a multi-day strategic planning retreat to help the Academy plan for the future.

Maine Adult Education Association (2017)

The Maine Adult Education Association advocates for adult education and supports its members in order to meet the educational needs of Maine’s adults. We were hired to facilitate a day-long interactive workshop to help the state’s regional Adult Education Hubs make decisions about governance and administration going forward. We also prepared a complete report of the workshop.

Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care (2006)

On beautiful Mount Desert Island we spent a day with the board of directors of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care. We helped the group decide their strategic priorities for the next five years and create a vision for school-based health centers, literally, on a huge 4’x8’ piece of paper!

Maine Assembly on School-based Health Care (2007)

The goal of the Maine Assembly on School-based Health Care (MeASBHC) is to improve children’s success by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn. MeASBHC supports the development and operations of school based health care services to accomplish this goal. We have worked with them before and they recently hired us again to help them survey stakeholders and finalize their strategic plan.

Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors (2013)

The Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors is a professional association of naturopathic doctors (NDs) who live and work in Maine, dedicated to advancing the principles of naturopathic medicine and expanding Maine’s consumers’ access to natural, prevention-based health care. We were hired to facilitate the annual strategic planning meeting of the Association. 

Maine Association of Planners (2013)

The Maine Association of Planners (MAP) is a membership organization that promotes, supports, and encourages the practice of planning in Maine. We were hired to help MAP update its strategic plan by designing and facilitating a process to gather input from members and key stakeholders.

Maine Bankers Association (2017)

The Maine Bankers Association supports Maine banks with information exchange, legislative advocacy, education and training, and collective purchasing power. The Association’s annual Emerging Leaders Conference is a skillbuilding and networking opportunity for new leaders and managers at Maine banks. Craig was been hired to facilitate two interactive sessions on networking at the Emerging Leaders Conference.

Maine CDC and Central Maine Regional Resource Center (2018)

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness Unit analyzes public health vulnerabilities in areas such as disease, terrorism, weather events, and much more. The Central Maine Regional Resource Center is one of Maine’s three Regional Resource Centers, charged with developing comprehensive plans for coordinated healthcare response to public health emergencies within the region. We were hired to facilitate an HVA (“Hazard Vulnerability Analysis”) meeting among 40 regional stakeholders to discuss and score the relative risks of potential hazardous events and situations in Central Maine. We also prepared a Complete Report of the meeting which included discussion comments as well as the scoring data.

Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) (2013)

The Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) conducts research, analysis, citizen education, and coalition building to advance public policies that help Maine people prosper in a strong, fair and sustainable economy. We were hired to plan and facilitate a meeting for members of the Maine Can Do Better coalition, which is currently hosted by MECEP, to clarify the purpose and structure of the coalition.

Maine Children’s Alliance (2016)

The Maine Children’s Alliance (MCA) is a nonpartisan, data-focused advocate for public policies and practices that improve the lives of Maine’s children, youth and families. We were hired to plan and facilitate a team building staff retreat for MCA. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator on this project.

Maine Community Action Association (2016)

The Maine Community Action Association represents 10 Community Action Agencies that provide services to low income people across Maine. We were hired to facilitate the Association’s
annual strategic planning session.

Maine Council for Elder Abuse Protection (2015)

The Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention (MCEAP) is comprised of over 40 organizations and individuals from across Maine working collaboratively to combat elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We were hired to facilitate and provide a report of a strategic planning session for the Council.

Maine Council of Churches (2012)

The Maine Council of Churches is an ecumenical community of nine denominations dedicated to the vision of a sustainable, just, and compassionate world. We were hired to facilitate a meeting of the Board of Directors to discuss strategic planning and organizational development issues. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

Maine County Commissioner’s Association (2007)

We planned and facilitated a full-day retreat of the Maine County Commissioner’s Association which consists of County Commissioners and Administrators from thoughout Maine. The retreat resulted in several key decisions about the organization’s strategic direction and specific tasks to be done.

Maine Crafts Association (2016)

The Maine Crafts Association works to strengthen individual craft artists – including artists of stone, wood, paper, clay, fiber, fabric, metal, and much more – while also supporting Maine communities, local economies, and the visitor experience by making Maine a national crafts destination. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat among members of the board, staff, and advisory board.

Maine Dental Association (2010)

In March, the Maine Dental Association hosted the New England Dental Leadership Conference, a gathering of dentists from the six New England states that will focus on the question, “What will the practice of dentistry look like in 2020?” We were hired to facilitate this 3-day conference.

Maine Energy Marketers Association (2016-2017)

The Maine Energy Marketers Association represents over 300 Maine providers of heating oil, propane, biofuels, pellets, electricity, and motor fuels. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting to build shared understanding of the Association’s current situation, general strategic direction, near term tasks and long term goals, and roles of the board, committees, and staff. Building on the work done in the meeting, we also facilitated a series of meetings among committee chairs to make a work plan for the future.

Maine Environmental Education Association (2006)

This volunteer collaborative of organizations and individuals who promote and facilitate environmental education hired us to facilitate their full-day board retreat intended to result in a strategic plan.

Maine Environmental Education Association (2010)

Like they did four years ago, the Maine  Environmental Education Association (MEEA) has hired us to facilitate a strategic planning retreat of the Board of Directors. As part of this work, we also conducted an online survey of MEEA board members, members, and advocacy groups. As a result of the meeting, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

Maine Environmental Funders Network (2007)

A joint project of the Maine Community Foundation and Maine Philanthropy Center, the Environmental Funders Network helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine’s natural environment. We were hired to facilitate a full-day strategic planning meeting of the board of directors.

Maine Environmental Funders Network (2008)

The Environmental Funders Network (EFN), an alliance of Maine-based foundations with environmental interests, helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine’s natural environment. We were hired to facilitate two meetings which explored potential collaborations around the theme of “Quality of Place.” Members discussed how the environmental philanthropic community can work together to improve the quality of Maine’s environment.

Maine Environmental Funders Network (2009)

The Environmental Funders Network, an alliance of Maine-based foundations with environmental interests, helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine’s natural environment. We were hired to facilitate another meeting in the group’s continuing exploration of how to collaborate around the theme of “Quality of Place.”

Maine Environmental Funders Network (2010)

We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat for this coalition of environmental philanthropists. As a joint project of the Maine Community Foundation and Maine Philanthropy Center, the Environmental Funders Network helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine’s natural environment.

Maine Food Strategy Network Gathering (2015)

The Maine Food Strategy is an initiative to create a broader and more strongly connected network of organizations and individuals contributing to the food system in Maine. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate a large network gathering to work on the initiative’s goal areas: economic development, environment, food access, and community support. We helped plan and facilitate the overall gathering and the breakout sessions. We also provided a complete report of the entire gathering.

Maine Global Warming Action Coalition (2008)

The Maine Global Warming Action Coalition is administered by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and consists of twenty nonprofit organizations concerned with global warming. They came together to discuss a common agenda and how best to work with each other. In addition to facilitating a meeting, we also helped with an advance survey of all coalition members and we prepared a summary report.

Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition (2013)

The Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition brings together allies to identify issues affecting Maine’s immigrant communities and to advocate collectively for solutions. We were hired to facilitate a full-day retreat for the Coalition to make decisions about future priorities and organizational structure.

Maine Local Government Human Resource Association (MLGHRA) (2017)

The Maine Local Government Human Resource Association (MLGHRA) advances knowledge, cooperation, and professional development among public sector human resources professionals throughout Maine. We were hired to plan and facilitate a goal-setting retreat among members of the MLGHRA Executive Board.

Maine Nursing Action Coalition (2017)

The Maine Nursing Action Coalition works to create innovative solutions where nurses are leading the way to address Maine’s health challenges. We were hired to plan and facilitate a stakeholder meeting to build shared understanding of Maine’s projected nursing shortage and to develop approaches to address related challenges.

Maine Nursing Action Coalition (Fall 2017)

The Maine Nursing Action Coalition works to create innovative solutions where nurses are leading the way to address Maine’s health challenges. We were hired to plan and facilitate a summit of stakeholders to develop approaches to address Maine’s projected nursing shortage. We also prepared a complete report.

Maine Nutrition Network (2006)

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. We helped the group decide their mission and specific areas of work for the next few years, along with how they should best be structured to achieve their goals. As follow up, we helped them write their strategic plan to be finalized at their annual meeting.

Maine Nutrition Network (2011)

The Maine Nutrition Network is a collaborative of public and private partners that coordinates nutrition and physical activity initiatives and contributes to policies and environments that improve the health of Maine people. We were hired to facilitate the Network’s annual meeting of about 100 people – in order to engage strategic stakeholders and partners in a discussion about the future of the Network. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

Maine Optometric Association (2013)

As the representative voice of optometry in Maine, the Maine Optometric Association advances the quality and availability of eye, vision, and related health care in Maine. We have been hired to facilitate a meeting among members to develop organizational priority focus areas and an action plan for the next few years. 

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (2008)

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) hired us to facilitate a discussion among the MOFGA board of directors and the board of directors of MOFGA Certification Services, LLC, the wholly-owned subsidiary of MOFGA that certifies organic farmers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (2010)

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. Several Good Group Decisions Associates then joined other volunteers in facilitating panel discussions at the 2010 conference. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. We were hired to help facilitate a multiphase strategic planning process. We began with a series of meetings, conversations, and surveys among stakeholder groups, board members, and staff members to help refine the organization’s values, vision and mission. In the next phase we facilitated a series of meetings to help define organizational goals and objectives.

Maine Osteopathic Association (2009)

The organization, which is dedicated to providing professional education and services for the osteopathic profession to ensure the quality of osteopathic care to the people of Maine, hired us to facilitate a full-day retreat of the Board of Directors focusing on strategic planning. Following the retreat, we prepared a report.

Maine Philanthropy Center (2011)

The Maine Philanthropy Center, a regional association of grantmakers working together to promote philanthropy and to increase its impact in Maine, is convening a conference entitled “Improving Food Access with Local Food”. We have been hired to help plan the day and help facilitate audience participation.

Maine Primary Care Association (2008)

The Maine Primary Care Association works to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net, providing high quality health care to underserved populations in Maine. We facilitated a board retreat, and prepared a complete meeting report that will serve as the basis of a strategic plan.

Maine Primary Care Association (2009)

For over 25 years, the Maine Primary Care Association has worked to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net. We were hired to facilitate two meetings among representatives of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to discuss how to more effectively communicate medical information. We also prepared reports of each of the meetings.

Maine Public Health Association (2016)

The Maine Public Health Association (MPHA) is a member-based nonprofit organization advocating for polices and environments that promote public health and health equity in Maine. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat.

Maine Pulp & Paper Association (2014)

The Maine Pulp & Paper Association represents the pulp and paper industry and associated businesses in Maine, working toward long-term viability and competitiveness in a global economy. We were hired to help the Association with a future planning process, including conducting stakeholder interviews and facilitating a series of meetings among Association leaders.

Maine Recreation & Park Association (2014)

The Maine Recreation & Park Association is a multi-stakeholder nonprofit organization dedicated to quality park systems, recreation programs, and healthy communities. Craig delivered two interactive sessions on facilitative leadership and conflict resolution at the Association’s annual Fall Workshop.

 

Maine Society of Land Surveyors (2011)

The Maine Society of Land Surveyors is a professional association working to enhance and protect the profession of land surveying. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning in conjunction with their annual meeting. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

Maine State Legislature and Maine State Employees Union (2015)

We were hired to facilitate a series of interest-based bargaining meetings among the nonpartisan staff members for the Maine State Legislature and the leadership of the Maine State Employees Union. Interest-based bargaining focuses on developing mutually beneficial agreements based on the interests of the participants.

Maine Woods Consortium (2011)

The Maine Woods Consortium is an open association of non-profit organizations, businesses and government agencies dedicated to advancing a “triple bottom line” approach (economy, environment, community) to development and conservation in the Maine Woods region. We were hired to offer advice on a project designed to develop a quality labeling program for Maine Woods tourism.

Massachusetts Psychiatric Society (2014)

The Massachusetts Psychiatric Society represents the majority of psychiatrists in Massachusetts, promotes education, legislation, and resource allocation to address the needs and rights of the mentally and emotionally ill, and provides a supportive and informative professional community. Craig was hired to plan and facilitate leadership development training for psychiatry residents actively involved with the Society’s council and committees. Training was delivered in both a full group setting and via individual coaching.

The Maine State Employees Association — SEIU Local 1989 — is a member-run labor union representing more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine. We were hired to plan and facilitate a 2-day board retreat focused on establishing strategic direction.

For the third year in a row, we have been hired to plan and facilitate a two-day board retreat focused on establishing strategic direction.

The Maine State Employees Association — SEIU Local 1989 — is a member-run labor union representing more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine. We were hired to facilitate a team building retreat of the senior management team, including advance interviews with members of the team.

NAMI Maine (2016-2017)

NAMI Maine, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, provides support, education, and advocacy to better the lives of those affected by mental illness. We were hired by the NAMI Maine System Reform Advisory Committee to help gather stakeholder input on indicators to measure the success of Maine’s mental health system, and to help plan action steps based on the input.

National Religious Partnership for the Environment (2014)

The National Religious Partnership for the Environment is an association of independent faith groups from the Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Evangelical traditions. The partnership undertakes scholarship, leadership training, congregational and agency initiatives, and public policy education in service to environmental sustainability and justice. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a two-day meeting in Maryland among faith-based environmental professionals to identify current work among religious groups and explore opportunities for collaboration.

National Speakers Association (2015)

Each year the National Speakers Association hosts a large convention for professional speakers. The 2015 conference took place in Washington, DC, and Craig offered a workshop on practical tips for audience interaction, participation, and collaboration: how to gather and summarize audience input, how to manage the microphone, and much more. New Hampshire Lakes Association (2016)

The New Hampshire Lakes Association protects New Hampshire lakes and watersheds through education and advocacy. We were hired to facilitate a strategic thinking process including stakeholder input gathering and a series of board and committee meetings. The process resulted in a written statement of strategic direction.

North American Association for Environmental Education (2012-2014)

The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) supports environmental educators with professional development, guidelines for excellence, networking, and advocacy. Craig helped facilitate a NAAEE strategic planning process that involved multiple meetings in Washington D.C. and San Francisco and phone interviews with thought leaders throughout the country.

We were hired to help plan and facilitate the three-day annual conference of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) in Oakland, California. We also helped plan and facilitate a special Funders Forum of about 100 organizations that invest in environmental education. NAAEE supports environmental educators in the US, Canada, and Mexico with professional development, guidelines for excellence, networking, and advocacy.

Craig helped plan and facilitate a meeting in Washington, DC, among leaders of NAAEE and the Children & Nature Network to discuss specific ideas for collaboration.

North American Association for Environmental Education (Spring 2012)

We were hired to offer a training session on Advanced Facilitation at the five-day National Training Workshop of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) in Washington, DC. NAAEE supports environmental educators in the US, Canada, and Mexico with professional development, guidelines for excellence, networking, and advocacy.

Northern New England Rally for Rail (2011)

Maine and New Hampshire business leaders, town and city officials, state legislators, and staffers from the U.S. Congressional delegation came together at this gathering to discuss advocacy for rail service through western Maine, New Hampshire, and into Canada. We were hired to plan and facilitate an Open Space-based meeting in which the group determined the most pressing issues, explored them in breakout sessions, and then collaborated as an entire group on next steps. We also prepared summary notes. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

Oil Heat Council of New Hampshire (2017)

The Oil Heat Council of New Hampshire serves as a resource and advocate for its members and provides information to the general public about heating with oil and energy conservation, environmental protection, and safety. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day strategic planning meeting to discuss and make decisions about the future work of the Council. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting and provided assistance with advance surveys of members and the board.

Waterfront Alliance (2017)

The Waterfront Alliance is a nonprofit civic organization committed to protecting and promoting the working waterfront of South Portland and Portland, Maine. In its role as a neutral convener of inclusive conversations, the Alliance hosted a public forum on a proposed cold storage warehouse on the Portland waterfront. The forum provided an opportunity for a panel of experts to address public questions about the cold storage business model and storage capacity, zoning, view and traffic impact, and more. Questions from attendees were written on paper and submitted in advance of the panel discussion. We were hired to plan, facilitate, and provide a complete report of the panel discussion.

Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative (2004)

The Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative convened a regional conference on April 29,2004 in Farmington to explore opportunities for sustainable development and promote an asset-based approach. The Collaborative hired us to moderate the conference and prepare a summary report.

Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative (2005)

Four organizations, Coastal Enterprises, Inc., Maine Center for Economic Policy, Mountain Counties Heritage Network, and the Western Mountains Alliance, joined together “to harness and encourage multiple efforts to achieve regional sustainable development that balances economic, environmental, and community values.” For over two years, Craig facilitated their regular, half-day meetings.

Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce (2018)

The town of Winthrop, Maine (pop. ~ 6000) borders several lakeshores in beautiful central Maine. We were hired by the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce to facilitate two community input sessions to help develop a vision for downtown Winthrop.
